Google receives 75k job applications in a week

London: Internet search giant Google received a staggering 75,000 job applications within just a week of kicking off its massive recruitment drive, says a media report. According to the Daily Mail, "Google received a staggering 75,000 job applications in just one week as it launch(ed) a huge recruitment spree."

The U.S.-based company holds the record for the highest number of job applications received when it advertised openings in May, 2007, the report noted. However, the latest barrage of applications tops that figure by 15 percent, with the company planning to add more than 6,000 new jobs. Competition for roles at the company is likely to be fierce, with 12 hopeful candidates vying for a single position an average.

Google had just 3,000 staff when it got listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2004. It now employs 24,400 workers in 63 offices around the world. The company plans to increase hiring as it pushes deeper into mobile services, display advertising and Internet applications. The job vacancies are across the entire company and include posts for software engineers that design new products, enterprise managers and technology experts.

Google's Senior Vice-President of Engineering and Research, Alan Eustace, said in a blog post last week, 'We're looking for top talent. I love Google because of our people. It's inspiring to be part of the team. And that's why I am excited about 2011, because it will be our biggest hiring year in company history."

Eustace further said, "We'll hire as many smart, creative people as we can to tackle some of the toughest challenges in computer science: like building a web-based operating system from scratch, instantly searching an index of more than 100 million gigabytes and even developing cars that drive themselves."

Google was ranked as America's best workplace by Fortune magazine in 2007 and 2008.

SDL developed the original version of the Oracle software. The name Oracle comes from the code-name of a CIA-funded project Ellison had worked on while previously employed by Ampex.

General View of Oracle

Introduction to DBMS::
DBMS-Collection of Integrated Interrelated data i.e.in DBMS the data which we are going to store is interrelated.unlike general notepad were data is not related.

High U.S visa fees affecting Indian professionals

NEW DELHI: Demanding relaxation in the U.S visa regime , an industry chamber today said the recent hike in professional visa fees by the Obama administration is hurting interests of Indians who want to do business there.

"Today, a lot of Indians wanting to set a shop in the US face difficulties. Visas are being used as non-tariff barriers," said Gautam Mahajan, National President of Indo - American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) here.

"There should be some professionalism in terms of looking at the needs of companies who've invested in the US," he added.

Under the Emergency Border Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2010 -- popularly called the Border Security Bill -- the US had hiked fee for certain categories of H-1B and L1 visas by at least USD 2,000 for the next five years.

Businesses in India and the US had termed the hike as discriminatory and said this would undermine the growing Indo-U.S economic relationship, with which the Obama Administration does not agree.

On the issue of radio tagging involving Indian students in the US, Mahajan said, "... (it) is wrong."

After being duped by a California-based "sham" university, scores of Indian students in the US were forced to wear radio collars around their ankles so that authorities can keep a track of their movements.

Meanwhile, a two-day Indo-US Economic Summit would be held here from February 11.

"Our objective is to make the Summit a stock taking exercise of the traditional contours of cooperation and at the same time reach out to newer and potential areas that open up opportunities for scaling business operations," Summit Chairman Lalit Bhasin said.

He said the Summit, to be attended by a large number of delegates from the two countries, would be inaugurated by Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

Banking, Finance: Are you ready for the job from Day 1?

THE recession in 2008 is a distant memory and the stock markets have almost reached their previous record high valuations. Financial sector is right now back from the brink, though global indicators are still far from satisfactory. But everybody agrees the worst is behind us.
So is the job market hot? Well, recruiters look at a combination of factors like articulated communication, presentation skills, overall personality, and the candidate’s basic knowledge of the industry.
They also test networking abilities and negotiation skills before inviting them on-board. For prepared candidates, opportunities do exist. But the million dollar question is - why is that after two years of a gruelling PGDM programme, are students still not ready to start work right away?
Are you job-ready?
“Not quite ready” is a common refrain. The course curriculum followed by academic institution provides the required knowledge inputs in management subjects like finance, marketing or HR. “ What it lacks is a vocational or industry focus,” says Judhajit Das, Chief Human Resources, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company.
Krish Lakshmikant, a leading headhunter seconds. The students do not apply their minds sufficiently and are just not ready to roll up their sleeves. The while collar AC room job mentality still persists he says. And corporations invest in costly training structures to get them job ready.
Fresh hires at Yes Bank undergo formal and intensive 5-week induction/ on-board programme. “We give them insight into company’s philosophy, culture, into our diverse business verticals and structure”, says Deodutta. Post that, the recruits are given on-the-job training and are exposed to 4-5 key support functions right at the inception stage. Similar induction programmes are conducted in Insurance and financial services sector too.
Where is the moolah?
In the insurance and banking sectors, entry-level salaries for MBAs range between Rs 5-8 lakhs per annum. Capital markets pay Rs 2.5 lakh or more for a sales and marketing function.
The entry-level salary band starts at Rs 1.5 lakhs per annum, varying city-to-city and the B-School the students come from. The highest salary in 2009 was Rs. 18 lakhs , while the average was Rs.10.20 lakhs, says Dr. Anupam Rastogi, Senior Prof. (Finance & Economics), NMIMS.
Skilled employees start higher, and the salaries are more if a professional exam has been cleared by a candidate. “Typically associate actuaries earn Rs. 20,00,000 plus pa and fellow actuaries Rs. 40,00,000 plus pa,” says Rajendra Shah, managing director, DS Actuarial Education Services.
Sounds like music to your ears? Then BFSI is your symphony indeed!
